Joygopalpur Youth Development Center

Joygopalpur, a village in Monipur Gram Panchyat under the jurisdiction of Sandeshkhali Block II is the birthplace of JYDC. Way back in 1986, a group of motivated youth formed a club naming it “Naboday Sangha’’. The group was actively involved in various social welfare and community development activities like ‘Social forestry’, AIDS awareness, education in various Rights, etc. During this time the Government of India sponsored “Nehru Yuba Kendra’’ made a mark in the Sundarbans. “Nehru Yuva Kendra’’ was established in year 1972 with the objective of providing rural youth avenues to take part in process of nation building as well as providing opportunities for development of their personality and skills. “Naboday Sangha’’ was called for training it volunteers in 1995. The Amtali Joygopalpur School hosted a Science, Agricultural and Cultural Expo in 1996. With the support of the then prime Minister, P.V Narasimha Rao. Youth Development Center were set up in village to help troubled youth come back to the mainstream 

of social life. Various Vocational trainings were imparted to empower them. As an active member of “Naboday Sangha’’ of the yesteryears and present Secretary of Joygopalpur Youth Development center was awarded the “Youth Award’ ’in recognition of the outstanding work done by him. A committee was formed by the senior members of the “Navoday Sangha’’ and from then on was rechristened Joygopalpur Youth Development Center in the year 1996. In course of time JYDC came into being as a registered non Governmental Organization (Under the Registration of Societies West Bengal Act XXVI Of 1961) in the year 2002-2003.

Our Objectives

  • To develop sustainable agriculture based on eco-friendly method as well as to protect environment and bio-diversity.  
  • To promote self-employment through skill development for the WSHG as well as to facilitate the marketing chain.  
  • To improve the health, hygiene and sanitation facilities (WASH).  
  • To upgrade the knowledge status of the people by providing value-based Education.  
  • To empower women for the purpose of gender equity.  
  • To promote self-help groups (SHG) and make arrangements of credit for augmenting their income by adopting various kinds of economic activities for maintaining livelihood.  
  • To render consultancy service to the other. 
  •  To publish various resource materials for the beneficiaries.

Our Mission is to create self-reliant villages without disturbing the eco-harmony and cultural heritage by making the people aware of different economic, socio-political and ecological issues affecting village life. The society also capacitates the people by enriching their knowledge and upgrading their skill to attain secured sustainable livelihood in Indian Sunderban Delta region, West Bengal.
